New Worldwide Ecotour Directory launched

EcoTour Directory (http://www.ecotourdirectory.com) was launched on 14th May 2004 by two people based in Bournemouth, UK with a keen interest in both Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism issues.The founders Karen Cristina and Gary Preston both come from very different backgrounds yet both maintain a shared vision about the purpose and future use of the site in helping to promote ecotourism.
Karen is a recent Tourism Studies graduate with a passion for travel and a strong belief in the concept of ecotourism whilst Gary brings his in-depth knowledge of web design and e-marketing to help transform the Âbig ideas into something tangible.
Karen said, “We found that although there are some fantastic ecotourism resources already available on the web there were very few directories that allowed you to easily find and contact ecotour operators directly.”
Gary added “Technically our goal was to produce a simple website that anybody could use regardless of their speed of connection, browser type or experience of browsing the web. We want our directory to become the online resource for any traveller who is planning or interested in going on an ecotour.”
EcoTour Directory’s aim is also to provide ecotour operators the opportunity to promote their business and ecotourism principles on a level playing field, regardless of their size and marketing budget. We feel that we have achieved this by:
-Offering one standard listing type and giving a dedicated page to each listing.
-Allowing businesses with and without an existing online presence to get listed.
-Not allowing sponsored or pay-for-position placements.
-Not taking commission or referral fees from the ecotour operator.
Every application that is made to our directory is reviewed before it is accepted. Our aim is to only include ecotour operators that demonstrate in some way their commitment to actively contributing to environmental/ social and/ or economic issues relevant to their destinations.
Due to the complexity of the ecotourism concept we do not claim to have tackled all relevant issues. However we do provide a link between the tourism industry and tourists who are equally concerned for the environment and local communities.

Aw, this was a really great post. In theory I’d like to write like this also – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get something done.
